Are you interested in nature, need volunteer hours for school, looking to spend quality time outdoors, or meet like-minded individuals. Then, look no further. The Cora Hartshorn Arboretum’s new High School Volunteer Days were created just for you.

High School Volunteer Days are designed to provide local high school students with opportunities to work hands-on in nature with the support and guidance from environmental professionals. Volunteer tasks are centered around conservation and environmental activism include forest restoration, trail maintenance, and assistance with education programs. Volunteers are expected to dress comfortably with sturdy walking shoes and come prepared to work outside.

Volunteer days throughout the 2025-2026 school year are run monthly on Saturdays from 11 AM-1 PM, plus an additional weekday coinciding with school closures. No experience is needed, and volunteers accepted into our program will be trained on-site with the expertise of CHA Staff. Prior members of Cora’s Conservation Corps (CCC), are encouraged to check out this new program.

For Parents/Guardians

In this program we are trying to develop a strong sense of independence with the teenagers. Whenever possible please have them reach out and communicate with us so that they can start practicing/developing their communication skills and instill a sense of responsibility. We appreciate all of your support in nurturing your teens towards success.

You do not have to attend every volunteer day, but participants are encouraged to attend as many days as possible throughout the year. Individuals who successfully participate in more than one volunteer day will automatically be considered for summer camp volunteer positions and will not need to apply.

Interested individuals should complete a volunteer application and email it to Cypress Dempsey at [email protected] by September 30th. Please note these applications and emails should come from the interested high schooler, not their parent.

Cancellation Policy

CHA reserves the right to cancel any program, including volunteer events. In the case of a Volunteer Day cancellation, participating individuals will be contacted by email as soon as possible and the date will not be rescheduled.
